Swedish Jernhusen AB to Recycle Body Heat
There are more than 200 thousand people passing through Central Station in the Swedish capital of Stockholm. Swedish company Jernhusen AB will attempt to take the body heat generated by the 200 odd thousand people everyday to serve their local office buildings and residential homes‘ heating requirements
Jernhusen AB believes that about 20 percent of their heat requirements can be recycled and collected by using a series of ventilators to move heat from the station to heat water which can then be led through a serious of pipes to heat the various buildings through this alternative energy source. Because the ventilation system is already more or less in place, only the pipes and pumps need to be installed.
Project leader Karl Sundholm claims the entire project will cost about 300,000 kronor (+- $50,000) to complete. “It just came up at a coffee meeting last summer. Somebody suggested: why not do something with all this heat in the station?”
Sounds like a cool idea…
