Nelly Kim Furtado is a 29 year old Canadian singer songwriter although she holds a Portuguese passport.

Furtado’s rise to stardom started in the year 2000 with her Grammy Award winning single: “I’m like a bird” and the success of her debut album called “Whoa, Nelly”. After Nelly’s first child and her lesser successful album called folklore in 2003 Furtado lit up the music scene once again with her Smash hit album entitled “Loose” in 2006 and the hit singles “Promiscuous”, “Say It Right”, “All Good Things”, and “Do It.”

Furtado has one daughter named Nevis with music DJ Jasper Gahunia. Furtado and Gahunia, the couple where together for numerous years, but broke their relationship in 2005.  Furtado has been quoted saying that they continue to be good friends and jointly share responsibility of raising Nevis. Nevis is ethnically a quarter Filipino, a quarter Asian Indian, and half Portuguese. Wow…

In June 2006, in an interview with Genre magazine, when asked if she had “ever felt an attraction to women”, Furtado replied “Absolutely. Women are beautiful and sexy.” Although saying this Nelly has always been open about being straight. In November 2006, Furtado revealed that she once turned down US$500,000 to pose nude in Playboy.

It was reported at the time of this article that Furtado is engaged to Cuban sound engineer, Demacio “Demo” Castellon, who worked with her on Loose.
